Keep Sunvale Primary School as Community Space

A group of community representatives are in early discussions regarding the Sunvale Primary School site which will become vacant when a new school opens on the corner of Hertford Rd and Duke St Sunshine.

The Sunvale site is valuable open space which is already used as a park by children in the surrounding area, and there is an opportunity to create a community hub adjacent to the Sunshine Leisure Centre that houses a badly needed youth development, adult education, and community development centre.

More information on this exciting proposal coming soon.

Parks and Open Space

Community Parks & Open Space

The Western Suburbs are under-resourced in terms of open space, reserves and sporting facilities. Unfortunately, open space, allocation of funds, sporting reserve leases have all become politicised meaning that our community is being short-changed.

Activity of note includes:

  • SunRRA response to Brimbank Council's Parks Strategy which highlights inequity across Brimbank
  • The fight to Save Holland Park in Kensington and Parson's Reserve in Sunshine from becoming quarries as part of the Eddington Transport Plan
  • The fantastic work being done by the Friends of McKay Gardens in restoring the heritage listed Industrial Gardens
